A 57-year-old man needed hospital treatment after being sprayed in the face with a “suspected noxious substance” in north London.

A second man is also thought to have been injured in Saturday’s attack but has not yet been found, police said.

It happened at about 7.45pm in Rostrevor Avenue, Stamford Hill.

One witness said both men had been Jewish – but Scotland Yard has moved to assure people the incident is not being treated as anti-Semitic.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said on Sunday: “We were called to reports of two men sprayed in the face with a suspected noxious substance.
