A 52-year-old man was stabbed to death in south London last night.

Police arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of murder at the scene of the incident in Selsdon Park Road, south Croydon, at 10.30pm.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the London Air Ambulance doctor.

Officers believe they know his identity, but await formal identification.

Next of kin have not been informed and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

The suspect has been taken to a south London police station, where he remains in custody.

Selsdon Park Road between Old Featherbed Lane and Farley Road have been closed while police investigate.

Access to John Ruskin College, Gilbert Scott Primary and The Quest Academy is affected by the road closures.
