A young man was assaulted and then stabbed in the back during a daylight attack at a park in Essex.

The 25-year-old suffered stab wounds to his hip and back and remains in hospital in a serious but not life-threatening condition, police said.

Detectives believe two youths may have been involved in the assault at St George’s Park, off Dunstable Drive in Braintree, shortly before 6pm on Saturday.

Essex Police said it was understood to have been a “targeted attack”.

The park was shut while forensics officers combed the scene for evidence but a cordon has now been lifted.
