A magistrate will appear in court today charged with fiddling more than £22,000 in expenses.

Carlton Janson, 68, is accused of carrying out the five-year expenses scam while sitting on the bench at Bolton Magistrates' Court.

Janson, of Bradford Park Drive, The Haulgh, Bolton, has been charged with four counts of fraud: two of obtaining property by deception and two of fraud by false representation.

The charges relate to expense claims of £22,076.02 made between April 2006 and April 2011, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said previously.

Janson is due to appear at Blackburn Magistrates' Court today.
