A lorry driver accused of knocking down and killing a 25-year-old cyclist in south London will stand trial in June, the Old Bailey heard today.

Darren Anderton, 48, allegedly caused the death of Magda Tadaj by careless driving in his Scania truck in St James Road, Selhurst, last May 23.

Following her death, tributes flooded in online to “lovely happy” Ms Tadaj, who was born in Poland but was living in Streatham at the time.

She was struck by Mr Anderton’s lorry at around 1.30pm, it is said, and died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics to save her life.

Anderton, from Nuneaton, had been excused from appearing in court this morning when Judge Mark Lucraft QC set a trial for June 12.

The defendant will return to court on April 21 to enter a plea to the charge of causing death by careless driving.
