A man has been taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition after suffering stab wounds near Liverpool St Station on Wednesday morning.

City of London Police said the man sought help from a cafe at 4.15am before workers called emergency services.

He was taken to Royal London Hospital and is no longer in a life-threatening condition.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said a man was treated for a neck wound. He was taken to major trauma centre as a priority.

“We were called this morning at 4:16am to reports of a person injured in Bishopsgate,” a spokesperson said.

“We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and members of our Tactical Response Unit to the scene, and also dispatched medics from London’s Air Ambulance by road.”

The station’s main Bishopsgate exit has been cordoned off as police investigate.

“Cordons are currently in place on Bishopsgate while enquiries are ongoing,” Chief Inspector Tom Fisher said. They are likely to remain in place into the morning rush hour.

Commuters using Liverpool Street Station will need to leave the station via other exits.
