A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of 47-year-old teaching assistant and mother-of-two Lindsay Birbeck, say Lancashire Police.

Ms Birbeck was found dead earlier this month after having gone missing.

She was discovered last weekend after last being seen in the village of Huncoat on August 12.

A Lancashire Police statement said: "Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, detectives have today charged a teenage boy with the murder of Lindsay Birbeck.

"The 16-year-old youth from Accrington, who cannot be named under the law, is due to appear before Blackburn Magistrates' Court on Monday morning.

"Lindsay's family have been told of this latest development."
