A man has been cautioned by police after dressing up as a clown and screaming at people.

The female victim was walking alone in Eaton Park Norwich last night when a man dressed as a clown jumped out at the victim.

He then screamed and ran after her before the victim escaped.

A 30 year-old man from south Norfolk has been cautioned by police for committing public order offences.

Norfolk superintendent Lynne Cross said: "Whilst this craze may seem harmless, it is actually quite frightening to those who experience it.

"It will not be tolerated and anyone caught with the intention of causing alarm, harassment or distress will be dealt with robustly."

The “killer clown” craze is sweeping the country, as Thames Valley Police were called to 14 reports of people being intimidated or frightened by clowns over the weekend.

In Essex, two Clacton County High School schoolgirls were approached by two people dressed as clowns who asked them if they wanted to attend a birthday party at 9.20am on Tuesday.

Last week, Northumbria Police issued an appeal and warning after a series of incidents in Newcastle involving people dressed as clowns jumping out and scaring schoolchildren.
