Actor Adam Deacon was today found guilty of harassing his former mentor, Adulthood director Noel Clarke, after sending hundreds of abusive messages online and threatening his family.

Deacon, 32, a Bafta Rising Star award-winner who appeared in the Channel 4 series Babylon, was convicted at Hammersmith magistrates’ court.

The court was told that Deacon, of Bethnal Green, incited people to hurt Mr Clarke, prompting a fan to post an image of his children on Facebook 81 times in one day.

The actor won his first break playing troubled teenager Jay in Kidulthood, a film written by Mr Clarke, but they fell out over Deacon’s 2011 directing debut Anuvahood, because of the name of the film.

Mr Clarke said they had not spoken since, and last year Deacon “released a barrage of abuse in a blog for Instagram claiming I’d been bullying him for as long as he could remember and claiming I had stopped him getting an agent in the business.

"None of these things were true in any way, shape or form.”

The actor, who is also a rapper and played firearms officer Robbie in Channel 4 police drama Babylon, which aired last year, showed no reaction as he was convicted.
