A teenage boy was stabbed to death outside a house party hours after his mother gave birth to his baby brother, friends said today.

Business student Che Wellington, 17, was knifed in the chest in Kenton, west London, at 12.36am yesterday. He was pronounced dead at the scene in Belvedere Way an hour later.

He is the 12th teenage victim of knife crime in the capital this year.

A 16-year-old friend was also stabbed in the attack. He was in a stable condition in hospital today. The friends were among dozens of guests at a DJ party which was held in a marquee in a back garden. Che was found slumped in a pool of blood 100 yards away.

His family have laid flowers at the spot where he died. His aunt, who did not want to be named, said: “He was a lovely boy and he will never be forgotten.”

His grandmother Terri Labastide wrote on Facebook: “Words cannot express how I am feeling right now, my first grandson was brutally taken from us this weekend. Rest in eternal paradise my lil soldier. Heaven has gained a blessed being whilst down here we have lost a precious gem.”

A family friend told the Standard his mother was “in a bad way” after hearing the news the day after giving birth.

Mr Wellington was a second-year business studies student at West Herts College in Watford.

A college friend said: “He would always be early for lessons and worked hard, he wanted to be a businessman. He was always there to make you smile and he had a great sense of humour.”

Two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, were arrested at the scene but later bailed.
