A teenager has been arrested over the “senseless” fatal stabbing of a schoolboy yards from his family home in North Woolwich.

Witnesses said Kayjon Lubin, 15, was chased by a gang acting “like a pack of dogs”.

He suffered knife wounds in Woodman Street, near the Royal Docks in Newham, just before 7pm on Friday.

The 17-year-old boy was detained this morning on suspicion of murder. A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Both remain in police custody where they are being interviewed.

A 25-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Newham shortly before 5am on Saturday has been released and will face no further action, the Metropolitan Police said.

Tributes flooded in for Kayjon who is thought have attended St Bonaventure's in Forest Gate.

Lawrence Adu, a friend of the boy's uncle, said he knew him “all his life”.

“I just got home, I'm so shocked,” said Mr Adu, who is also the boy's neighbour.

“He's a nice young man, very handsome and always laughing.”

Friend Khalif-Shakeil Edwards changed his profile photo on Facebook to a photo of the youngster with the message: "Rest in peace my little G."

He also wrote: "May you rest in peace my little bro. June 2005-Dec2020."

Another young man posted on Twitter: "Long live Kayjon. Look over us man."

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wrigley said: “These arrests are a positive step in our investigation but we are still working to establish exactly what took place on Friday night.

“There were lots of people in the area at the time and I would appeal for anyone who hasn’t yet come forward, to do so.

“The senseless killing of a 15-year-old has understandably shocked the community and I would urge them to help us bring those responsible to justice.”

Anyone with information is urged to call the incident room on 0208 345 3715.

Alternatively, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
