Three gang members who bragged on YouTube and a TV documentary about being armed with guns have been jailed for more than 50 years.

Winston White, 22, and Akyrie Palmer, 21, of Lewisham and Mark Oduro, 20, of Stockwell, boasted about walking the streets with guns on Channel 5’s Gangland: Turf Wars, which was broadcast while they were remanded in custody.

The men also spoke about their life of crime on YouTube in clips later uncovered by detectives.

They were arrested after armed police found a loaded sawn-off shotgun, revolver and ammunition when they stopped the men on the Turnham Estate in Brockley.

The gang members were discovered wearing balaclavas next to a black Honda moped on Thursday, May 26.

Oduro ran off but White and Palmer were detained by police close to the bike. Oduro, who was wearing body armour, was stopped nearby a short time later and was also found to be in possession of a further four rounds of ammunition suitable for the revolver.

The trio were subsequently charged with gun offences.

On Thursday, White was sentenced on Thursday to 17 years in prison while Palmer and Oduro received 18 and 16 year terms.

Oduro was handed an additional nine-month sentence for breaching a previous suspended sentence.

Detective Constable Sarah Smart, of the Trident and Gang Crime Command, said: "These men are very dangerous criminals who used TV and social media to brag about carrying loaded firearms on the street.

"Evidence gathered during the investigation indicated that White, Oduro and Palmer were featured in a television programme carrying firearms and wearing masks.

“The documentary, called ‘Gangland: Turf Wars’, was broadcast whilst they were in custody awaiting trial.

“YouTube videos of the men bragging about their use of firearms were also uncovered by detectives.

"It is clear they believed that they were above the law and untouchable; their conviction and sentencing demonstrates this is not the case.

“Trident is committed to relentlessly pursuing those who carry firearms and blight the communities they live in."
