A police officer who was one of four injured tackling a knifeman “slashing” wildly in north London is likely to be scarred for life, it was revealed today.

Scotland Yard said the officers were met “with hostility” when they arrived at the address in Liverpool Road. Neighbours told how the 19-year-old suspect burst through the front door waving a “large knife” at police.

He was Tasered and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and a knife was recovered at the scene. Another teenager, 19, was arrested on suspicion of affray.

All four officers were taken to hospital and three were later discharged. A male officer remains in hospital suffering from serious knife injuries to the face. Mike Pannett, a former Met officer who has written books about his time in the force, told the Evening Standard. “They are all okay. The most seriously injured is stable.”
