A father was knocked unconscious and left lying in a pool of his own blood after being attacked by a middle-aged man in a motorised wheelchair.

Emmanuvel Camisan Judes, spent his 31st birthday in hospital with a broken jaw after he was left unconscious at a bus stop on his way home from a late-shift at a supermarket in Wandsworth.

Police today released CCTV pictures of the wheelchair-bound suspect and his baseball-capped companion as they appealed for witnesses to the unprovoked attack come forward.

Mr Judes, who has an 18-month-old daughter, told the Standard he was waiting for the bus home to Mitcham, south London, when the man in the chair demanded: “What are you staring at?”

Mr Judes replied “nothing” and seconds later the balding man on the mobility scooter rammed into his legs, he says.

The second man allegedly then shoved Mr Judes into a wall, causing him to black out as he hit the pavement.

When he awoke several minutes later the pair, who police believe had earlier been to the Cineworld cinema, were nowhere to be seen.

The father-of-one told the Standard: “The disabled man started driving his chair into the front of my legs.

“He looked mad. He kept driving over my legs.

“The other man pushed me really hard in the chest, my head hit the wall and I passed out. I have no idea what happened after that.

“I think I may have been hit by something else like a stick, because I got a broken jaw as well. But I didn’t see them carrying anything.”

He came to and called his wife Merin, 28, who was looking after their daughter Susana at home. She reached the scene before police.

Mr Judes was taken to St George’s Hospital and spent his birthday having a plate and screws inserted into his broken jaw.

He said: “It was the worst birthday I’ve ever had. I couldn’t speak, laugh or even eat any cake. When my daughter saw me she cried and wanted to touch my face.”

Mr Judes, who moved to London from Sri Lanka three years ago, said he had been unable to work for several weeks after the attack and still feels “intense” pain from the injury.

He added: “These people need to be caught.”

Police want to trace these two men after the 'unprovoked' attack

Police today launched a fresh appeal for witnesses to catch the pair after the attack at around 11pm on Friday July 25.

The disabled man is aged between 40 and 45, has dark hair, balding on top and wore a white shirt.

His accomplice was slim, aged between 20 and 25, wearing a black t-shirt and red baseball cap.

Mr Judes had his 31st birthday in hospital but was unable to eat the cake because of his injuries

They were accompanied by a young woman who police said was not involved in the attack.

Detective Constable Chris Taylor from Wandsworth CID said: “This attack was completely unprovoked.

“We know the suspects had been in the Cineworld cinema prior to the offence and came out of the Southside Centre and onto Garratt Lane.

“We are issuing CCTV images of the group and I would hope that someone would be able recognise them.”

Witnesses are asked to call 020 3276 2582 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
