A four-year-old girl is seriously injured after being shot in the head with an arrow, police say.

The child was rushed to hospital by air ambulance for surgery after she was shot with a bow on Saturday afternoon.

Police are still investigating the incident, which happened at the young girl's house in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

A friend of the family told the Daily Mail it had been a "tragic accident".

Detective Inspector Gary Stephenson, of Calderdale District CID, said: "Enquiries are ongoing to determine precisely how this girl has come to be injured.

"Our investigations suggest she was not intentionally injured and an 18-year-old male is assisting us with our enquiries.

"Specially trained officers are working to support her family as our investigations continue.”
