A man was assaulted on the Tube after challenging another passenger who was apparently making offensive comments about other people in the carriage, police said.

Detectives today released CCTV of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident on the Victoria Line between Oxford Circus and Highbury and Islington.

The 46-year-old victim had challenged the other passenger over his remarks before getting up to move away.

But the alleged attacker then got up himself and blocked the victim’s way before assaulting him, police said.

The victim then left the train at Highbury and Islington station, while the other man remained on board the train.

PC Natalie Fairhurst said: “I am keen to speak to the man in the CCTV image as I believe he holds vital information. Everyone has the right to travel on the rail network without fear of intimidation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016 quoting reference T-SUB/B5 of 20/10/15. Alternatively they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
