A seven-year-old girl was assaulted by a man at a north London Tube station, police said.

The young girl was hit across the head by a man as she walked across the bridge to exit Edgware station.

The child was walking slightly ahead of her mother and her younger brother when she was struck by the man.

Although she was not seriously injured, the girl was left traumatised by the attack at about 1pm on November 6.

Sergeant Ben Hurley, of British Transport Police, said: “The girl, who was with her younger brother, had gone ahead of her mother when the man hit her.

“She was not seriously injured, but understandably this was a very traumatic experience for her.

“We need anyone who might have seen what happened to get in touch with us.”

A 55-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault in relation to the incident, and is currently on police bail.

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference TSUB/B2 of 10/12/15. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
