A fraudster splurged more than £1.2 million of his disabled father's money on a lavish lifestyle including a top-of-the-range BMW which he later crashed.

Geovonne Oliver, 21, stole the cash while his Lewisham father, who had lost both legs in an industrial action, was away in Jamaica.

He siphoned the money off into accounts held by accomplice Boon Keat Tai, before transferring it into his own.

Oliver, from Bradford, used the money to fund an extravagant lifestyle, spending it on jewellery, property and a trove of luxury goods.

Today, at Southwark Crown Court, Oliver entered a guilty plea mid-trial to fraud and perverting the course of justice.

He was sentenced to five years in jail.

Tai, 44, of Wigmore Street in the West End, was found guilty of money laundering offences and jailed for three years.

Detective Constable Mick Diddams of the Met's Cyber Crime Unit said: "The majority of fraud cases have an element of anonymity.

"This case however, is personal. Oliver has worked hard to steal from his own family and then frivolously wasted the money on a shopping spree.

"I would urge everyone to monitor their bank accounts and ensure that any passwords are sufficiently complex so as not to be obvious to anyone who knows you."

The jury was unable to reach a verdict on a third man, Jaques Konate, 21, of Grove Street, Deptford, over money-laundering.
