A former senior detective in Scotland Yard’s paedophile unit has been issued with a harassment order after allegedly threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend.

Neil Thompson, 50, is said to have sent mother-of-three Hayley Elgood, 35, a series of abusive texts. One allegedly read: “You’re dead.”

She told a judge she was so worried that she could not go outside, according to The Sun.

Mr Thompson, who was banned from contacting or going near his former girlfriend by a judge at Bow family court, was one of the principal investigators at the Met in Operation Ore, the international investigation into paedophiles downloading indecent images of children from a US website.

The ex-detective chief inspector, who retired from policing in 2010, said: “It was a bog standard domestic thing.”
