A fly-tipper drove his white van along a lane which backs onto detached £1 million homes leaving a trail of rubbish in his wake, a court heard.

CCTV footage showed the tipper van, above, not stopping as household and building waste was dumped in a swirl of dust in south London.

George Smith, 40, inset, is said to have done cash-in-hand house clearances and to have illegally dumped more than six tonnes in just two months.

The heaps of rubbish included a cooker, rubble, scraps of wood, tiles and the base of a bed, it was claimed.

Smith was allegedly caught on film driving down the alleyway in Campden Road in Croydon in one tipper truck that was traced back to him and seized by council officials.

Days later he was captured again using a different tipper truck to fly-tip even more rubbish, it was claimed. He denies all charges.

The trial continues.
