Five men have been shot in a suspected gang-related feud in Hackney.

Police and paramedics were called to Homerton High Street after reports of gunfire at about 5.40am yesterday. By the time they arrived, the gunmen and their victims had fled.

The five men who had been shot later went to hospital in east London and were treated for minor injuries.

The shootings are being investigated by detectives from Scotland Yard's Operation Trident.

A Met spokesman said: "Four men presented themselves at one hospital and a fifth man went to another east London hospital. All five were treated for gunshot wounds. The victims
suffered minor injuries."

There have been no arrests. Police are appealing for witnesses, or for anyone with information about the attack to come forward.

Hackney is one of 19 boroughs targeted by the Met in its renewed drive to crack down on 250 active street gangs in London.

A new unit - Trident Gang Crime Command - was launched this month.
