Five arrests after gunshots fired at unarmed police during chase through Essex town

Unarmed police officers were shot at during a chase through a town in Essex in the early hours of this morning.

Five men were arrested after the incident in Basildon at around 1am.

Police said nobody was injured when the shots were aimed at officers near Arne Court and Vaughan Williams Road.

Police had been called after reports a number of men were seen with firearms.

Essex Police said three men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and two others were held on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
