A man in his 60s was taken to hospital with a head injury after a fight in south London that left “blood on the road” last night.

Police officers and paramedics were called to London Road in Twickenham, at about 11.15pm, where they found and treated the injured man.

A second man was this morning being held at a police station in south-west London on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

London Road and Whitton Road were closed off in the hours after the fight. Neighbours spoke of “blood on the road”, with one person tweeting: “Whitton Road [closed] because of blood on the road from a fight. Bus full [and] lots of cars stuck.”

Scotland Yard said the injured man was released from hospital this morning.
