Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Harwich.

Police rushed to High Street in Great Oakley just after 10am on Thursday following concerns about the welfare of a woman.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 50-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her death is being treated as suspicious and further investigations are ongoing.

A man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

Detective Ant Alcock said: “I appreciate this may cause concern in the locality, but at this time, there’s no wider impact on the community.

“The woman’s family is being supported by officers at this difficult time.

“We will remain on scene whilst we carry out investigative enquiries and are working hard to establish the facts.”
