A teenager will appear at the Old Bailey today accused of raping an 11-year-old girl on her way home from school.

Opemipo Jaji, 18, is also charged with the attempted rape of the schoolgirl in Jubilee Park, Ponders End, north London, on Friday November 23.

Jaji, of Osward Place, Edmonton, north London, is due to face trial on April 10.

He is listed before Mr Justice Singh for a plea and case management hearing.

The victim, who was dressed in her school uniform, got off a bus and was walking along Galliard Road at 4.30pm when she was followed by a man.

She was dragged inside the park to the pitch and putt area, where she was raped.

She returned home after the ordeal between 7.45pm and 8pm and police were immediately called.

She was taken to hospital where she was treated for serious injuries and underwent surgery.
