This is the first picture of a young woman killed by a car fleeing police in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Maria Carolina Do Nascimento Migel, 22, died after being hit by a car along Hendon Way, at the Brent Cross Flyover just after police tried to pull it over.

Her devastated family paid tribute to their “Princess and little star” as they sought to raise funds to get her body flown back to her native Brazil.

The horror crash came shortly after officers on patrol in a marked police car indicated for the car to stop at 3.45am.

But the vehicle sped off from police who saythey did not chase it on the highway.

The vehicle then slammed into another car at the junction which had Maria as a passenger.

The occupants of the car did not stop for police and fled the scene on foot.

Paramedics rushed to the scene but despite their best efforts, Maria sadly died at the scene.

The family of the Brazilian national have raised more than £18,900 to get her body flown back to her hometown.

They said: “Our dear Princess Mary tragically passed away this Christmas morning in a car accident in London, England.

“Respecting her mother's wishes, she would like to bring her body back to Brazil so that she can rest in her hometown and close to her entire family.

“Thank you to everyone who helped us exceed the estimate for our beloved daughter Maria, our little star. Also to everyone who sent messages remembering beautiful memories.

“Our princess is very loved!”

A man, the driver of the second car, suffered a head injury but is expected to recover.

Two men, aged 29, and a 21-year-old man were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

They have all since been bailed pending further enquiries.

As is routine in these circumstances, the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Anyone with information that could assist police, including any road users with dash cam footage, is asked to call 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD933/25Dec. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
