A driver made a lucky escape today after a car flipped over on to a homeowner's front lawn during the rush hour in north west London.

The motorist escaped with minor injuries after the vehicle hit a wall in Pursley Street, Mill Hill.

It landed upside down in front of a row of houses just after 5pm.

One witness posted pictures of the accident scene on Twitter, saying: "How did the car overturn near this junction? It doesn't make sense."

A lamp post in the road was damaged in the crash and Barnet council has been informed of the accident, a spokesman for Scotland Yard said.

He said: "Police were called to Pursley Road at 5.11pm, following reports of a road traffic collision.

"Officers attended and found a car in collision with a residential wall. There were no serious injuries.

"The local authority have been contacted regarding damage caused to a nearby lamp post."
