A diplomat was arrested for alleged assault after his wife unlocked his phone using his thumbprint while he was sleeping to read his messages, it has been claimed.
The wife reportedly suspected her Foreign Office envoy husband of having an affair so took his phone, which was enabled with a fingerprint sensor, and pressed his thumb on the home button to unlock it while he slept in their central London home.
The man was later arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm when his wife ended up in hospital with injuries allegedly inflicted by him.
A source told The Sun that following the row in the early hours of July 16, she went to hospital for treatment and made a complaint to police later that day alleging she was assaulted.
Her husband was arrested at the start of this month, it was reported.
The source said: “His wife was suspicious about whether he was having an affair.
“While he was sleeping, she took his phone and gently pressed his thumb on it to unlock it and read his messages. A row developed and she ended up in hospital. She claimed he had beaten her.”
The Met said: “On August 1, detectives arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of actual bodily harm. He has been bailed to return to police in mid-September.”
