Murder detectives are investigating the death of a man assaulted in a Hackney car park.
Police found 49-year-old Mehmet Değerli, from Stoke Newington, collapsed near Sandringham Road in Dalston shortly after 1am on Wednesday.
Paramedics fought to save his life but he was pronounced dead in the small residents’ car park a short while later, Scotland Yard said.
A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and police have launched an appeal for information concerning the killing.
Metropolitan Police detective chief inspector Rob Pack said: "At this stage we believe Mr Derğerli to have been the victim of a violent assault - and need to hear from people who can help us piece together exactly what happened."
"The scene of the attack is close to a crossroads, where Sandringham Road meets Cecilia Road. It is likely there would have been cars and pedestrians about even at that time of night. The area is also overlooked by numerous houses and flats.”
He urged members of the public to come forward with information that could aid the investigation, adding: "The victim's car was parked in Sandringham Road and suffered some damage - did you see anyone interfering with any vehicles in that area? Or anyone hanging around at that time either on foot or in a car?"
