A man arrested in connection with a crash between a woman and a cyclist which left her fighting for life has been released under investigation.

The 30-year-old was taken into custody at around 11pm on Wednesday, August 29, after contacting police himself.

He was detained by the Met Police on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm as well as failing to stop and report a collision.

After being questioned he has been released.

The 56-year-old woman, who collided with a cyclist on an electric-powered bike, remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Her next of kin are aware of her condition.

Around 5.07pm on Tuesday, August 28, was when the incident occurred on Kingsland High Street in Dalston.

A male cyclist stopped at the scene, due to coming off his bicycle, but made off moments later and the bike was abandoned on Approach Close where it was recovered by police, police said.

CCTV footage has shown the moment the victim was hit on a crossing.

She steps into the road before the bike, which was an electric-assisted Specialized model, and rider collide with her.

The video appears to show the cyclist and woman left in a heap on the ground before the cyclist walked away carrying his damaged bike and a bystander asked him to stay.

After the incident a witness, who declined to be named, said: “I heard a big bang and saw a guy on a bike on the floor and a lady unresponsive, like she had been knocked out."

Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact the SCIU, Serious Collisions Investigations Unit, at Chadwell Heath on 020 8597 4874 or call 101 quoting CAD 5837/28 August.
