Dagenham murder probe: Two arrests after man, 47, killed in east London hit-and-run

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following a hit-and-run in east London.

Detectives believe John Avers, 47, was deliberately targeted and hit by a car in Dagenham, late last Sunday.

The vehicle then left the scene.

Scotland Yard said officers stopped a vehicle on the A2 near Gravesend, Kent, at around 11.30pm on Friday.

They arrested a man on suspicion of murder and two women on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The male suspect remains in custody in a north London police station, while the female suspects were released under investigation.

Another man, aged 58, was arrested in Southend-on-Sea on Saturday on suspicion of murder.

He is currently in custody in an Essex police station.

Officers were called to the car park at Whalebone Lane South shortly before 11.45pm on Sepetmber 13 following reports a car had collided with a pedestrian.

Mr Avers was found by officers and paramedics with serious injuries and died at the scene shortly afterwards.

A post-mortem examination found he died from multiple injuries.
