A cross-eyed rioter identified by police on CCTV because of his features has been jailed for eight years for starting a £1.12 million blaze - the longest sentence yet handed out over last summer's riots.

Andrew Burls, 23, left six people fearing for their lives in flats above Regen's in Peckham High Street.

He thought a bandana round his lower face would hide his identity as he set fires and targeted stores for looting.

Inner London crown court was told he gave a false alibi before admitting two counts of arson, being reckless as to whether life is endangered, and one of burglary.
