A couple in their 60s have been tied up and scalded with boiling water during a terrifying two-hour raid at their home.

The female victim is in a critical condition following the "shocking" burglary, which saw the victims tied up and attacked by three men at their property off London Road in Halstead, near Sevenoaks, Kent

Police have released an e-fit image of a suspect wanted for the raid, which took place just after 9pm on April 26.

The couple suffered serious burns after boiling water was poured on them as their attackers demanded cash, Kent Police said.

A group of businessmen shocked after hearing about the couple's ordeal have reportedly put up a £20,000 reward to help catch the raiders.

Both victims remain in hospital, with the woman said to be in a critical condition.

Officers have now released a computer-generated image of one of the suspects.

Sergeant Simon Harrold, of Kent Police's serious crime unit, said: "Although the suspects tried to conceal their identities, we have been able to get a very detailed description of one of the men.

"We are continuing to follow a number of lines of inquiry to find the people responsible for this shocking crime and I would urge anyone with any information, no matter how small it may seem, to get in touch."

The man in the image is black, of stocky build, of medium height with short cropped hair. He is in his 20s, and believed to speak with a London accent. He wore dark clothing during the attack.

Anyone with any information should call the west Kent appeals line on 01622 604100, quoting reference YY/8810/16.
