A controlling boyfriend has been jailed for forcing his partner to run on a treadmill so she would look like Kim Kardashian.

Mohammed Anwaar made Gemma Doherty, 30, restrict her diet to cans of tuna and beetroot while exercising until she collapsed from exhaustion, a court heard.

Ms Doherty, a mother-of-two from Sheffield, was attacked by Anwaar if she missed weightloss targets as he wanted her to have a similar figure to Kim Kardashian and Brazilian model Gracyanne Barbosa.

On Thursday, he was jailed for two years and four months at Sheffield crown court in one of the first convictions under legislation designed to tackle controlling behaviour.

He pleaded guilty to ten charges, nine of which were related to violent incidents while he also admitted controlling or coercive behaviour.

The law was introduced at the end of last year and carries a maximum sentence of five years.
