A stash of cocaine worth more than £25million has been discovered hidden inside a box of plastic bananas that were buried beneath real ones.

About 150kg of the Class A drug was found concealed in a box which travelled from Colombia to Kent yesterday.

After arriving in Dover, the box was taken by lorry to a unit on the Oast Park Trading Estate in Hartlip, Kent, which was being watched by detectives from the Met's Special Projects Team.

Police arrested a 48-year-old man from Kent in connection with the drugs after he was seen unloading them from the lorry and putting them in a warehouse at about 9am.

Three Colombian men from London, aged 36, 46 and 39, were also arrested after they met at an internet café in Stockwell, south London, and were believed to have accessed instructions relating to the cocaine.

All four men remain in custody at a London police station, Scotland Yard said today.

Officers broke into the warehouse at 10.30pm and recovered the stash.

The lorry driver is not believed to have been involved in any crime, police said.
