A young man is fighting for life after he was ploughed into by two teenagers allegedly driving a stolen car in south west London.

Police attempted to stop a car in Stormont Road, in Wandsworth, shortly before 1.15pm on Friday, but the teenagers drove on before hitting a 26-year-old man.

Having hit the young man in Clapham Common North Side, the two teenage boys drove on before ploughing in`to another car in Sisters Avenue, police said.

The 26-year-old was rushed to hospital, where he is in a critical condition. His next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the car the two teenagers hit was not seriously injured.

The two teenagers – one aged 16 and another aged 17 - were arrested on suspicion of aggravated taking of a vehicle and driving away.

The 16-year-old was taken to hospital following the crash, but has since been discharged and is being held in custody.

The 17-year-old was also taken to a south London hospital. He was later discharged and is also being held in custody.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an investigation into the incident.

A Met Police spokesman said: “The car failed to stop for police and in Clapham Common North Side, at the junction with Forth Bridge Road, the car was in collision with a pedestrian.

“The pedestrian - a man aged 26 - was taken to a south London hospital. He is described as being in a critical condition. His next of kin have been informed.

“The car carried on until it collided with another car in Sisters Avenue. The driver of this car was not seriously injured.”
