A disgraced City trader and his wife who made a £1.5 million fortune from insider trading are facing jail.

James and Miranda Sanders, 35 and 34, bought cars and a £5 million house off the back of a string of illegal deals.

The couple, from Kensington, were handed “highly sensitive price sensitive commercial, and confidential, information”, via Miranda’s sister Annabel McClellan.

McClellan, 39, has been sentenced to 11 months in a US prison for obstructing an investigation into financial tips she allegedly passed on after overhearing her husband Arnold, 52, who worked for Deloitte, discussing transactions with clients. He is not accused of any wrongdoing.

James Sanders, owner of now defunct broker Blue Index, bought shares in a variety of businesses and encouraged others to do the same.

The couple pleaded guilty to insider dealing charges this year. They are due to be sentenced at Southwark crown court today along with fellow Blue Index founder James Swallow, 33, from Fulham, who also admitted insider dealing.
