A jury was asked today if Vicky Pryce, the former wife of disgraced MP Chris Huhne, was a “quivering jelly type” who could be pressured into taking her husband’s speeding points.

Today at at Southwark crown court, Andrew Edis QC summed up the prosecution’s case in the trial of Pryce, 58, who denies perverting the course of justice.

The economist is accused of posing as the driver of Huhne’s BMW after he was caught speeding between Stansted and London in March 2003.

She is pleading marital coercion, claiming her husband bullied her into taking the points so he would avoid a driving ban.

Mr Edis said Pryce was “one of the most powerful, talented, intelligent and trusted” women in the country ... Do you think she is easily reduced to a quivering jelly? ... No, she isn’t.”

The trial continues.
