A man stabbed a woman in the neck outside a health clinic in a west London suburb before slashing her friend and tossing the knife into a school playground, witnesses said today.

Detectives are hunting the attacker who knifed the woman twice in broad daylight in front of horrified passers-by outside Chiswick Health Centre, in a residential street behind Chiswick High Road.

A man also suffered stab wounds in the horrific attack in Dolman Road at 6.15pm yesterday.

Police believe the knifeman and his two victims, both in their 30s, all know each other.

Shocked witnesses told how the female victim stumbled screaming into the high street to flag down a passing police car.

She was given first aid at the scene as officers gave chase to the attacker, who is said to have tossed the blade into the grounds of Belmont Primary School as he fled.

Karine Santos, 20, was working at a nearby hair salon, heard the woman’s terrified screams for help.

She told the Standard: “I saw this woman drenched in blood standing in the middle of the road, waving her arms.

“She was shouting ‘stop, stop’ at the police car and ran in front of it, she was screaming and looked absolutely terrified.

“The police car stopped for her and they got out and started treating her straight away.

“A man who ran up to the police and started gesticulating round the corner pointing to where the attacker was still nearby.

“You never see this thing happen in Chiswick. It’s normally very peaceful here, but this was horrible.”

Another witness, who did not want to be named, said: “The woman had been stabbed twice in the back of the neck, I could see her sister crying in the road being consoled by the police.

“The man looked very young and was in a really bad way being treated by paramedics. It was awful.”

The London Air Ambulance landed on Turnham Green before the two victims were taken to hospital. Neither are said to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

A 45-year-old witness said: “A man was stabbed at the crossing on Dolman Road, in front of the health centre.

“The attacker walked by my car with the knife in clear view. I watched him head off towards Sainsbury’s and throw the knife over a wall for the school playground on Dolman Road and reported it to the police officers.”

A Met spokeswoman said: “Officers believe the pair were attacked by a man who then fled the scene. It is believed all parties are known to each other.

“A knife was recovered close to the scene and will be subject to forensic examination. There have been no arrests and inquiries continue.”
