Notorious prisoner Charles Bronson “smeared himself in butter before taking on 12 prison guards” after Arsenal won the FA Cup last weekend, it has emerged.

The Tottenham fan, currently being held in Full Sutton prison in York, admitted he “had a rumble” after Arsenal beat Hull at Wembley on May 17, according to reports in The Daily Mirror.

Writing in a letter to Kate Kray, ex-wife of infamous London gangster Ronnie Kray, the 61-year-old revealed how he was left with broken ribs after the incident.

He wrote: “Not good news. I’ve had another rumble. This time with a dozen riot mob on the yard!”

“I so wanted Hull to win, coz (sic) I'm Spurs. I got Lurpak and spread it on thick. Then a small cloud appeared."

Bronson, who was first jailed in 1974 for an armed robbery on a post office, has spent the last 40 years behind bars, save just four months, with 36 of those years being served in solitary confinement.

He was recently moved to Full Sutton from Woodhill in Milton Keynes after he allegedly attacked a prison governor after his artwork was criticised.

Over the years Bronson has been involved in a series of jail sieges and outbursts. He was given a life sentence in 1999 for holding a prison teacher hostage for 44 hours.

Bronson once boasted that he had “had more hostages than Saddam Hussein,” and his exploits were made into a blockbuster film in 2008 staring Tom Hardy.
