CCTV images of a man thought to have assaulted and mugged the sister of TV presenter Myleene Klass have been released by police.

The singer's sister Jessie, 33, was walking with her mother Magdalena near the family home in Wood Green when a man tried to snatch her handbag. He then assaulted Jessie, a radio and TV producer, before fleeing emptyhanded.

Detectives today released two CCTV stills of a man they said they were keen to trace in connection with the attempted mugging in Whittington Road on Tuesday January 7.

Police said the 33-year-old victim was approached by a man who attempted to snatch her handbag. The woman resisted and the man assaulted her, dragging her ground and pulling her along the pavement.

Ms Klass’s 67-year-old mother tried to hold onto the victim and was also dragged along during the violent struggle. The suspect then fled without the bag.

Detectives said Ms Klass’s sister received minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment, though both women were very distressed by the incident.

The mugging prompted father Oscar Klass to call on the Mayor of London to place more police on the streets.

Detective Constable Pat Dunne, of the Haringey robbery squad, said: "This was a terrifying attack on two women on a main road. I'm confident someone will be able to identify the suspect pictured in the images released today.”

Myleene Klass, 35, is urging anyone who saw the incident to come forward on behalf of her sister.

She said: "I am horrified by what happened to my mum and sister as anyone would be if this were a member of their own family and I urge any person that knows anything or can help in anyway to please come forward."

Immediately after the robbery attempt the singer tweeted: "To the person who mugged my 67-yearold mum and my sister. I hope you get hit by a bus and die. Slowly."

Anyone with information should call police on 0203 2763070 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
