A teenager died early today after being dumped in the street with stab wounds by a scooter rider who sped away from the scene.

The 18-year-old victim lay bleeding in the road after being pushed from the bike and abandoned in Denmark Road, Camberwell last night.

Neighbours rushed to the aid of the teenager at 6.55pm and gave him first aid until paramedics arrived. He was rushed to hospital but died at 12.22am this morning.

A shocking video taken by a passer-by shows the scooter rider leaving his companion slumped in the street before driving away.

One witness said: “The boy was hanging off the back of the scooter and the guy on front was screaming ‘hold on, hold on’.

“I said to my sister that guy looks very ill. He was all slumped over, hanging off. They were going quite slowly and both had helmets on.

Onlookers rushed to help the stab victim, circled, as his companion drove off

“He fell off further up the road and loads of people ran out to try and help. It’s so scary to hear that he died.”

Abu Kamara, residents’ chairman of the Crawford estate, said: “His friend stopped the moped and just pushed him off. He shouted ‘help him, help him, he’s been stabbed’ to people standing on the street and rode off.

“I can’t believe it he just left him in the middle of the road. He obviously didn’t want to get involved with police and panicked.”

Neighbours rushed to the aid of the teenager and gave him first aid until paramedics arrived

He added: “Everyone shouted ‘Why are you leaving him? Chase him!’

“They ran after him but he got away. He was a coward if that kid had got to hospital he could have been saved.

“The boy was stabbed twice in his side. There was a lot of blood.”

He said people came out of their homes and started doing CPR on him. “The police were magnificent. It’s not a boy from around here. I’ve seen a lot of young boys asking who he was, worried it was their friend.”

Police believe the scooter rider may have been heading to nearby King’s College Hospital to get help before the victim lost consciousness on the back of the bike.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding, who is leading the murder inquiry, said: “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in yet another young person being fatally stabbed in London.

“We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, we need to trace the moped and also the person who brought the victim to the scene, it’s important we establish where the victim initially received his injuries.

“Anyone who saw the moped make off from the scene we equally need to hear from them.”

The teenager’s family has been informed and there have been no arrests. He is the 16th teenager to be stabbed to death so far this year.

The scene is around half a mile from the address where Katrina Makunova, 17, from Lewisham, died after suffering stab injuries at an address in Brisbane Street on July 12. A 21-year-old man has been charged with her murder.

The death comes as London’s murder rate has slowed in recent weeks compared to a surge in killings in the spring.

However, there are still daily incidents of stabbings and shootings in the capital, often linked to gangs.

Last night two young men in their early 20s suffered minor stab wounds in separate attacks in Harrow Road, Maida Hill.

In another incident a 19-year-old man was shot near Highbury Fields in Islington.

Police were called at 10.20pm to reports of a fight and gunshots in Highbury Crescent. They found a man suffering gunshot injuries in Corsica Street.

The teenager was taken to hospital where his condition is described as stable. His injuries are not life threatening.
