Two brothers who raped and stole from prostitutes have been jailed for a total of 50 years.

Ali Deen, 24, of no fixed addess and Basiru Deen, 21, of Leicester, attacked their victims at a brothel in Lewisham.

The pair were jailed yesterday following a trial at the Old Bailey.

Police believe they may have committed similar crimes against other sex workers and are urging any victims to come forward.

The court heard the brothers contacted one sex worker over the phone and made arrangements to visit her address on January 19.

When she answered the door she was met by the Deen brothers and another unidentified man.

Guilty: Basiru Deen, 21

One of the men punched her in the face while another took out a handgun before they raided the property. They demanded she hand over her money, before Basiru Deen raped the woman.

A second woman, who was inside a bedroom, was raped by the other man, while Ali Deen held a gun to her head. She was then raped by Basiru Deen.

He left the property, alongside the unidentified man, with cash, laptops and mobile phones.

Ali Deen stayed behind and threatened to kill the women if they failed to do as he ordered, announcing he was their ‘pimp’.

He fled the property when the doorbell rang and the victims called police.

Three days later, police launched an investigation and Basiru Deen was arrested. Ali Deen was also eventually arrested on January 30.

Acting Detective Inspector Jon Summers praised the women in the case for having the courage to speak to police about their ordeal.

He said: "I believe that one of the reasons the Deen brothers targeted these women was because they thought that they would not report what had happened to them to the police. They believed that these vulnerable women could be targeted for rape and robbery and the police would or could not help them.

“They could not be more wrong and I would like to take this opportunity to reassure anyone who has been a victim of rape and have not come forward to do so.”

He continued: "I cannot rule out that Ali and Basiru Deen may have committed similar crimes of this nature and I hope their convictions today will give anyone who may have been attacked by them, the confidence to contact us or one of the many organisations supporting sex workers we work alongside."

Ali Deen was jailed for 30 years for rape, aiding and abetting rape, robbery and possession of a firearm.

Basiru Deen, who was jailed for 20 years, was convicted of rape and robbery.
