A thief pretending to be a boiler repair man stole £1,000 and jewellery belonging to the dead wife of a blind man.

Police are attempting to trace a man in connection with the burglary which took place on November 10 at the victim’s home in Romford.

The blind man, who is aged in his 50s, arranged for a boiler repair technician to come to his home that day.

A man, masquerading as the repair man, visited the property and demanded £650 but took all of the money the victim was holding, coming to £1,000 in total.

The fake repair man also took jewellery items belonging to his dead wife.

Investigators have released an image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the burglary.

Trainee Detective Constable Deborah Wyatt, investigating officer, said: "This is a deplorable crime where the victim has clearly been targeted due to his blindness.

"I would appeal to the person in the image released, or anyone who recognises him, to contact us."

Anyone who recognises the man in the image, or who has any information on who he may be, are can call 01708 779 216 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or via crimestoppers-uk.org
