A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his 30s was stabbed to death on a bus in Birmingham.

The passenger died after being knifed during an argument with another man in Handsworth, West Midlands Police said.

Police launched a murder investigation after the victim was found injured on the upper deck of the bus.

Officers and paramedics sped to the scene in Rookery Road, Handsworth following the attack at around 10.40pm on Monday.

Medics gave the man CPR but he died a short while later.

The suspect is described as a black man, aged around 30 and wearing a baseball cap and padded jacket.

The road remained shut on Tuesday morning as police carried out forensic work.

Temporary Superintendent Tom Chisholm from Force CID said: “The investigation is in the early stages but it is believed the man was stabbed following an altercation between him and the offender on the upper deck of the outer circle No 11A bus as it travelled along Rookery Road in Handsworth.

“I am appealing for anyone who was travelling on the bus last night and who has information or anyone who saw the offender after leaving the bus to call police."
