Amy Winehouse’s former boyfriend raped a drunken woman twice as she slept, a court heard today.

Reg Traviss, 35, is said to have visited three bars with the woman who could barely stand up by the time they went to his Marylebone flat in the early hours of New Year’s Eve last year.

Katherine Lumsdon, prosecuting, said the woman claimed the film director took her home after asking if she wanted to stay and the next thing she remembered was waking up to find him having sex with her.

Ms Lumsdon said: “She says she was asleep when he raped her, she was clearly not consenting, nor could he possibly have thought that she was.” After the woman woke up, Ms Lumsdon said, “she was very shocked. He offered her a drink. She accepted some wine and got out of bed and went to sit on the sofa.

“She found that she was wearing only her bra and T-shirt, she couldn’t find her jeans or her knickers. She wrapped herself to make herself decent with the scarf she had been wearing that evening. They chatted on the sofa and she was finding

the experience very strange. They chatted for half an hour and she began to relax a bit. She couldn’t process what happened and could hardly believe it.”

The court heard that the woman went back to sleep only to wake up to find Traviss having sex with her again. Ms Lumsdon said she asked him where her knickers were and he told her he wanted to keep them.

After his arrest in April, Traviss told police the woman was “compos mentis” and that she suggested he joined her in bed before they had sex.

Traviss, who was Winehouse’s boyfriend at the time of her death in July last year, denies two charges of rape. The trial continues.
