Naked: Lara Pulver in Sherlock
6 June 2012

Lara Pulver's memorable nude scene as a dominatrix in Sherlock has landed her a best actress nomination at a leading US TV Awards event.

Her appearance in the second series of the BBC1 drama drew a string of complaints, but was a big draw for viewers who made it the biggest iPlayer hit so far this year.

Now she has been nominated for the American Critic's Choice Television Awards, one of many Brits to get a nod from judges.

Also up for gongs at the awards ceremony in Beverly Hills on June 18 are Michelle Dockery, Damien Lewis, Dominic West and Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch.

Pulver played Irene Adler in a scene which saw her completely naked except for a pair of designer stilettos in an episode called A Scandal In Belgravia.

She is up for best actress in a TV movie or mini-series and faces competition from fellow British star Emily Watson - for her Bafta-winning role in Appropriate Adult, about serial killers Fred and Rosemary West - and British-based Gillian Anderson for Great Expectations.

Lewis and Dockery are nominated for best actor and best actress in a drama series respectively, with their shows Homeland and Downton Abbey also up for best drama.

The best TV movie or mini-series category is dominated by British shows, with Luther, Sherlock, Page Eight and The Hour all nominated.

Brit stars Idris Elba, Bill Nighy, Cumberbatch and West also pack the shortlist for best actor in a TV movie or mini-series. They face Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson for the prize.

Scottish star Kelly Macdonald is nominated for best supporting actress in a drama for her role in Boardwalk Empire.

Mad Men is the most nominated drama, up for five gongs, including best drama, best actor for Jon Hamm, best actress for Elizabeth Moss and best supporting actor for John Slattery.

Sherlock is up for three awards.
