Joan Collins has angrily denied a story that she propositioned a star of The Partridge Family to indulge in an orgy.
Shirley Jones, 79, who played wholesome mother Shirley Partridge in the Seventies sitcom, wrote in her autobiography that during the Sixties Collins invited Jones and her husband Jack Cassidy to her home for dinner.
After they had eaten, Collins’s husband Tony Newley allegedly proposed they all strip off and watch pornography together.
“It was clear what Tony was leading up to. Swinging,” wrote Jones in Shirley Jones: A Memoir, and said she refused the offer. However, a “livid” Collins, 80, claimed the anecdote was false and sent a cease and desist legal letter to Jones’s publisher Simon & Schuster and demanded a retraction.
Jones initially refused to back down, saying that the story was true, but according to a report in the US last night, she and Simon & Schuster have now agreed to remove Collins’s name from the ebook and future print editions.
“We all make mistakes. I’ve made a few myself, but not with Mrs Jones. I’m a serial monogamist,” Collins told celebrity website TMZ.
Jones also wrote about a threesome she and her husband had with a dancer called Jean, although she claimed it wasn’t to her liking.
“If Jack hadn’t fully come to terms with my sexual boundaries before, after that night in Las Vegas with Jean, he now understood conclusively that threesomes were just not my thing,” she wrote.
