I know people who can’t wash their own hair. They have a kind of block about it. A few too many blow-drys have rendered them… hopeless. Just as regular manicures can render you unable ever to file a talon, a laundry-hungry mother can render an oedipal man unable ever to PICK UP A TOWEL and a personal assistant can render some people unable to confirm a lunch date themselves. So grand and infuriating, that.
Anyway, time was when dry shampoo was the preserve of grubby schoolgirls. Now it’s the sharp and smart way to revive an ageing blow-dry; one where the tips are slick and blunt, the silhouette is swishy and glossy, but the roots are oily. Always remember (cruelly, this is particularly true if you are single) that greasy hair can make you look a bit unhinged. Like laddered tights. And crying.
