What is your biggest turn-off?

10 April 2012

If you were desperate to stay celibate there would no doubt be a number of good ways not to attract the opposite sex — like eschewing the deodorant, perhaps. Yes, it will come as no shock that a survey dating site, Smooch.com, found body odour to be the top turn-off for single people (followed by bad oral hygiene, excess weight and unemployment). With that in mind, I asked Londoners to tell me their biggest turn-offs.

Bad breath
Phoebe, 30, account exec

Towards the end of a fling with a guy I think he had some kind of gum infection and the smell was revolting. Bad shoes and dirty toenails are also horrid.

Odours
Ryan, 27, development

In general, any sort of bad smell.

Muscles
Anna, 26, civil servant

You see a really built-up guy and you instantly know that he's going to be a protein shake-obsessed bore.

Smoker's breath
Greg, 24, civil servant

My biggest turn-off is smoker's breath — nothing is worse than a hot girl who smells like a week-old ashtray.

Moles
Samantha, 27, sales

Big facial moles and moley backs are a turn-off. So are long, hard toenails and guys with feminine, shapely bottoms.

Long nails
Chloe, 24, fundraiser

BO and bad breath are bad, but most of all I hate long nails on men — either their hands or feet. Yuk.

Flatulence
Simon, 32, accountant

Disgusting body noises from a woman — farting. I know women produce all the nastiness a man does but a true beauty will never reveal these things to their fella. The little innocent slip-up is endearing but anything else is absolutely downright wrong.
